Embrace the cold from top to toe
Share
There are various conditions that make cold hands and feet worse – diabetes, Raynauds, peripheral neuropathy, hypothyroidism, and even stress can all make our extremities feel cold. Maybe you are trying to keep warm outdoors, or shivering indoors trying to look after the environment (and your pennies) by not turning up your central heating. Whatever the reason, we can help you keep warm and look good at the same time.
Feeling the chill
When you get cold your body constricts the small blood vessels in your hands and feet so that blood moves to your core and keeps your organs warm. The possum down in our accessories has a hollow fibre, which makes it super lightweight with excellent insulation properties, trapping warm air against the skin – up to 55% more than a 100% wool garment. It can’t freeze, even when exposed to prolonged periods of cold - the only other animal with this type of fur is the polar bear!
Possum down also has added therapeutic benefits. The hollow fibre wicks moisture away from the skin so you can wear it for prolonged periods without feeling clammy, as it allows your skin to breathe. Added to this it is non-irritating to the skin, with an enzyme in the possum fibre that has been found to actually help skin conditions like eczema and athlete’s foot.
Fighting a cold snap
Fingerless gloves and wrist warmers are the perfect choice if you want to keep cosy but need to keep your fingers free for fiddly jobs or anything requiring manual dexterity. When you are the only cold person in the office and your colleagues won’t let you turn the heating up, just pop on a pair of our beautiful fingerless gloves and carry on typing! Or opt for a full glove and keep your fingertips protected in even the coldest months.
Cozy socks are an essential layer in your battle against the elements. Most people go for thick and chunky socks thinking they will be warmer, but you may simply end up with tight shoes and rubbed feet. Our socks are light, luxurious as cashmere, and - thanks to the possum blend - have incredible warmth and moisture wicking qualities. The natural fibres in our socks along with their gentle grip cuff, also makes these an excellent choice for anyone with sensitive skin and leg conditions caused by diabetes or neuropathy.
Whilst scientists have long since debunked the theory that we lose most of our body heat thorough a bare head, the truth is that we lose heat in cold temperatures via any area of exposed skin – head included. Therefore, if you want to keep warm you should most definitely wear a hat! Our beanies achieve excellent insulation whilst avoiding excess weight and irritation, as well as coming in a variety of beautiful styles and colours. Ideal for layering under hoods in snowy weather or for completing a chic winter outfit.
Your last defence in the battle against the elements and annoying draughts has to be a scarf. Our neckwarmers and scarves provide protection from the cold without adding bulk, as well as feeling incredibly soft against the sensitive skin of the neck. Great for layering and available in a myriad of colours to complement your wardrobe, our lightweight knits offer exceptional insulation whilst still looking sophisticated. Designed with travelling in mind, our new range of wraps will make any journey feel luxurious but look equally fabulous thrown over your shoulders at a winter wedding, or just to snuggle up with on the sofa.
